GUSR pairs students with adults who have disabilities to form relationships of friendship, respect, and mutual support. The program’s goals include breaking down stigmas faced by people with disabilities, celebrating all abilities, and advocating for inclusion. Students and their partners participate in weekly play practice programming that culminates in a performance at the end of each semester or in sports programming that focuses on bowling in the fall and basketball in the spring. Special events throughout the year include activities to educate and build community during Disabilities Awareness Week, a two-day retreat called Way of the Heart, and an inclusive 5K run.
