Through two listening sessions in 2018 our Mission and Ministry Team heard the needs voiced by Catholic students regarding their faith formation on campus. With three new professional staff we have added weekly Catholic gatherings, coordinated Adoration, and introduced a retreat, Lumina Vitae, that reinforces the spiritual development of the Catholic faith.

One arena the Office of Mission and Ministry looked to expand upon in 2018/19 is Faith and Justice. Following the call of formal Jesuit Superior General, Fr. Pedro Arrupe, SJ, our Jesuit mission is one that’s “prime educational objective must be to form men-and-women-for-others; men and women who will live not for themselves but for God and his Christ—for the God-human who lived and died for all the world; men and women who cannot even conceive of love of God which does not include love for the least of their neighbors; men and women completely convinced that love of God which does not issue in justice for others is a farce.” Response to this call has occurred in liturgies/vigils/paraliturgies, activism and service, cross-university collaboration, and interfaith work.

Programs have included:

  • Westborough Baptist Protest Interfaith Vigil (200+ attendees)
  • New Zealand Mosque Shooting Vigil (80+ attendees)
  • Tree of Life Synagogue Shooting Vigil (80+ attendees)
  • Liturgy of Lament (125+ attendees)

Bulldog Athlete Ministry is a non-denominational Christian sports ministry that focuses on helping keep God at the center of athlete’s lives and helping athletes explore their Christian faith. This group meets weekly in a large group and there is a small group component at each meeting. 63 students involved representing a full cross section of university scholar-athletes.
