12-14 hours/week (total, could be split between 2 employees), Academic Year
The student employee in this role provides outstanding leadership and support for all areas of liturgical ministry on campus. Through organization, preparation, training, and hospitality, the LMHS fosters a vibrant campus liturgical life specifically in daily, weekly, and special occasion liturgical celebrations.
Assists in the implementation of campus Liturgies as assigned by Senior Coordinator for Liturgical Life.
Provides support for weekday daily Mass
Provides support for and is present for Sunday Mass and Large Liturgies (ie. Welcome Mass, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Commencement Mass)
Co-creates liturgy scripts with Senior Coordinator for Liturgical Life
Prepares Presider before Mass (Week before & Hour before)
Organizes and gives Mass announcements
Prepare pre-Mass prayers for ministers
Provides support for Adoration on Thursday nights (Light Nights)
Provides support for Masses on Mission & Ministry retreats
Assists in Recruiting, Training and Scheduling Liturgical Ministers, including Sacristans, Eucharistic Minsters, Lectors, and Altar Servers for Mass on campus.
Is available to find substitutes or fill any vacant roles when scheduled persons do not attend
Collaborates with the Setons (ushers)
Cares for, including cleaning and set-up of, the physical worship space, particularly in University Chapel
Organizes Sacristy & all sacred spaces on Campus
Participates in General Cleaning (Linens, Baptismal Font, Liturgical Items, etc.)
Maintains Liturgical Supplies & Equipment, including inventory
Maintain sacred space in accordance with liturgical seasons
Assists with documentation and record-keeping related to liturgies
Co-chairs Liturgy Committee
In partnership with the SA for Music Ministry, assists with Liturgical Formation, including the development of a Liturgy Retreat
Participates in outreach and collaboration for Interfaith and Ecumenical opportunities
Meets weekly with the Senior Coordinator for Liturgical Life
Strong understanding of Catholic Liturgy, Catholic Teaching and Faith
Desire and ability to integrate oneself within the Mission & Ministry Team and Gonzaga community
Requirement to stand, walk, sit, sit, hear and use repetitive motion of hands/wrists. Lifts and moves items up to 15 pounds.
Reports to: Senior Coordinator for Liturgical Life
7-9 hours/week, Academic year
The student employee in this role provides outstanding leadership and support for liturgical ministry on campus through sacred music. Particular care is given to leading disciples toward deeper conversion and fellowship, while ensuring that the University’s liturgical celebrations are uplifting, prayerful and reflective of our experience of God at Gonzaga.
Assists in the selection, coordination and implementation of music for campus Liturgies as assigned by the Senior Coordinator for Liturgical Life.
Provides support for and is present at Sunday Masses & Large Liturgies (ie. Welcome Mass, Mass of the Holy Spirit, Commencement Mass)
Assists in recruitment of musicians and choir
Schedules Cantors, Psalmists & Instrumentalists
Co-Creates Worship Aids with Senior Coordinator for Liturgical Life
Prepares post-rehearsal prayers
Maintains and sets-up music equipment in University Chapel
Organizes and keeps appropriate documentation and records for liturgical music, including:
Music Library organization
Preparation of Instrumental and Choir Binders
Reports for Licensing
Serves as liaison to and cultivates relationships with: THIRST leadership, Choir President from Music Department

A student Office Assistant maintains a presence of hospitality, service, and information at the front desk in the Hemmingson Office of Mission and Ministry, particularly during the lunch hour.
Welcome and greet those who visit the office
Be familiar with and give information to visitors about program offerings, services, and team members of the Office of Mission and Ministry
Use Cashnet (training provided) to accept payments from students for Mission and Ministry programs
Refer people to appropriate Mission & Ministry staff and/or other campus resources as needed
Help with office tasks such as organizing, filing, data entry, etc. as directed by the Office Coordinator
Maintain order and cleanliness of the Mission and Ministry Hemmingson Office
Available from noon-1pm weekdays

The CLC Assistant helps facilitate the organizational side of the CLC program by maintaining accurate and updated documentation, communicating with leaders, and serving as the “president” of the CLC Executive Council (ExCo).

1-3 hours/week, semesterly (spring)The First Year Retreat Assistant actively supports and leads the Gonzaga University’s First Retreat. inviting all Gonzaga freshmen to meet the rich heritage of a Jesuit, Catholic, liberal arts education, the First Year Retreat specifically introduces students to life at Gonzaga, especially in its faith dimension. The Freshmen Retreat builds a connection between social life, academic life, residence life and spiritual life at college. Through sharing by student team members, small group discussions, praise songs, silent reflection, communal prayer, games and live entertainment, the First Year Retreat invites students to reflect on faith, relationships, community and service to others.
Note: this position requires additional hours around retreat time; no more than 20 hours per week.
Be available for and present on both weekend retreats during the semester of employment.
Meet regularly with the coordinator and other FYR Assistant to plan crew meetings and prepare retreat materials
Actively participate in both retreat preparation and retreat execution, with particular care given to the support of the crew and first year students
Help recruit, review applications and select crew members
Facilitate crew faith sharing at the three crew meetings leading up to the retreat
Model and lead communal prayer at crew meetings and on retreat
Model and enforce appropriate behavior by crew and freshmen
Manage and direct crew and freshmen during the retreats
Lead games and activities
During week of retreat: organize crew to prep for retreat by making small groups, name tags, welcome posters, First Year retreat bags, stationery with envelopes etc…

Reports to: Year 2 Retreat Coordinator of the Office of Mission and Ministry. This position is expected to work collaboratively with all members of the Office of Mission and Ministry to ensure successful and meaningful programs.
5-8 hours/week, Academic Year
A Search Retreat Assistant is a student employee who contributes to the work of Mission and Ministry by helping facilitate the Search Retreat four times per year (2 per semester). They are looked to as the student leaders of the Search Community on campus. They are involved in the planning and execution of the retreat, recruiting and advertising for crew members and retreatants, and the assessment and evaluation of the program.
Assist in the implementation of the Search Retreat as assigned by the Search Retreat Coordinator through office hours, crew meetings, and presence on the Search retreat.
Maintain professional and accurate documentation and records including confidential participant information, program manuals, presentations, and reports.
Advertise and market Search Retreat through appropriate channels.
Support the Search Crew
Recruit, select, and train student leader crews (as needed) for Search Retreats.
Facilitate 3 crew meetings in preparation for each Search Retreat
Be prepared to fill in for any role on any of the crews in preparation or during the retreat
Meet with crew members/chiefs as needed leading up the retreat to answer questions and support in their preparation for retreat
Check in with crews to make sure work is being done in a timely manner
Unify students to work together on their spiritual and religious development in accord with the Jesuit educational philosophy that pursues the integral educating of the whole person of our students
Work with crew members, focus on the retreatants, and be capable of following detailed directions and scheduling
The week before the retreat, be prepared to help with preparation/clean-up of events, as needed.
The day before retreat, be present at Bozarth set-up night and supervise the set-up of the mansion.
On retreat:
Serve as point to movie the retreat along and transition participants through retreat elements. Speak in front of the large group.
assist the coordinator in risk management protocol
organize crew to make sure they are prepared for their tasks as part of the retreat
provided spiritual accompaniment for the crew in their retreat experience
After retreat, participate in reflection and evaluation of Search program for future retreats including but not limited to the assessment of Search Retreats following departmental standards for program evaluation.

Embark is a 5-day pre-orientation retreat program ran for incoming first-year students at the Bozarth Retreat Center.
August 17-26, 2021, averaging 10 hours/week
Supports and leads Crew training
Facilitate daily crew prep sessions August 17-20, 2 hours each day
Facilitate opening or closing prayer opportunities for each day of crew prep
Work well with crew members, focus on getting them ready to work with retreatants, and be capable of faithfully following detailed directions and scheduling
Assist program lead with set-up and clean up for crew prep
Assist program lead with Costco run on August 20th, dropping off materials at Bozarth
Assist program lead with organization of supplies for check-in, nametags, etc.
Supports Embark “Send-off” on August 22, 9 am-12pm, 1-2pm
Staff the check-in table and run logistics on check-in day
Gather retreatants at designated check-in spot at 1 pm, secure their bags in the office
Develop icebreakers and other activities for retreatants as they are waiting to load the buses
Walk retreatants to gather their things from the office and load the buses – check in the crew and retreatants as they board buses
Supports Embark “Return” on August 26, 10 am – 2 pm
Welcome retreatants back to campus
Lead retreatants and crew from buses to store belongings in Mission & Ministry Hemmingson Office
Lead retreatants and crew to closing Mass
Eat lunch with retreatants and crew
Give closing announcements, ensure retreatants and crew retrieve their belongings
